Silk is an ongoing development/design commission to create a new casino prototype for a multinational development company.

The overall programming encompasses three distinct categories for multiple locations. These programs allow for high visual impact and the ability to expand as both resort and urban destinations. Like all casino resorts, multiple room types are designed to attract the widest range of guests. The core ingredient, as expressed by its name, is silk. Silk seeks to stress and explore the rich history of one of nature’s most luxurious staples. The design and branding throughout the complex seek a narrative venue ingraining this richness filtered toward that goal. The key visualizing element is a multistory “crystalline” cocoon nestled independently within the hotels dark massing. The cocoon choreographs the strands of white “tracery” lines of silk fibers which envelope the black monolithic structure. The branding continues with the multiple symbols and abstractions which celebrate both the silk, silk moth and rigor of hand craftsmanship.
